Karlatornet is located in the new district, Karlstaden. A 245-meter-high skyscraper, consisting of several unique design features that required customized solutions from Peikko.

The new district of Karlastaden, which comprises eight blocks. In total, there will be 2,000 new apartments as well as shops, cafes, offices, a school, and a health center, creating a modern and attractive new area with a big city feel.

Karlatornet is being built by Serneke, who is both a developer and construction contractor. With 73 floors, the tower will be both Gothenburg's first skyscraper and Scandinavia's tallest building. Karlatornet will consist of a total of 611 apartments. A restaurant and skybar on the 69th floor will provide a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings. In addition to its impressive height, Karlatornet also has distinctive and attractive twists in the structure from floors 38 to 58. To provide the stability and strength needed for this part of the design, two outriggers have been built, as well as belt walls.

Built with Peikko PSB® Punching Reinforcement

The tower is built on a huge base plate that is 33x33 meters in diameter and 3.75 meters thick. The bottom plate is connected to 57 piles that are up to 65 meters deep and to confirm the strength of the bottom plate in a continuous casting. Peikko's PSB® Punching reinforcement was an important part of the bottom plate's construction. To meet the specific requirements of this exceptionally tall building, Peikko manufactured PSB® that were 3.5 m long with a diameter of 32 mm. In total, Peikko supplied approximately 107 tons of PSB® Punching Reinforcement used in the base plate. To prevent puncture failure, PSB® has also been used throughout the building's other floors, with over 10,000 studs.
